About St Joseph's Parish
A community of faith, hope, and love serving Waihi for over a century
Our Parish Community
St Joseph's Parish is a vibrant Catholic community nestled in the heart of Waihi, a town with a rich history intertwined with New Zealand's gold mining heritage. For over 125 years, our parish has been a beacon of faith, serving generations of families and welcoming visitors from around the world.
As a member of the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton Group, we are committed to upholding the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church while embracing the unique character of our local community. Our parish is more than just a building – it is a family of believers united in Christ.
We offer a full range of sacramental services including Mass, baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. Our doors are always open to those seeking spiritual guidance, pastoral care, or simply a welcoming community to call home.
Who We Are
St Joseph's Parish represents a diverse cross-section of the Waihi community, from young families raising children in the faith to seniors who have been pillars of our parish for decades. We are farmers, miners, teachers, business owners, retirees, and students – all bound together by our shared faith in Jesus Christ.
Our Location
Situated at 18 Mueller Street in the heart of Waihi, our church is easily accessible and provides a peaceful sanctuary for prayer and worship. The historic town of Waihi, located in the Hauraki District, is known for its beautiful landscapes and rich mining heritage.
Diocese Affiliation
We are proud members of the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton Group. This connection ensures we remain part of the wider Catholic Church community throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions, participating in diocesan initiatives and collaborative ministry efforts.
Registered Charity
St Joseph's Parish operates as a registered charity (Charity ID: CC32640), ensuring transparency and accountability in all our operations. All donations are used to support parish activities, maintain our church facilities, and fund community outreach programs.
Community Connection
Beyond our liturgical celebrations, we actively engage with the broader Waihi community through charitable works, educational programs, and social events that bring people together in the spirit of Christian fellowship and service.
